India, A Country that Needs Jesus

The country of India is slightly one-third the land-size of the United States, but with a population of almost 1.3 billion people, it out populates the U.S. four to one. Let’s put this in perspective: Quadruple the number of people in your town or city and then reduce the city limits by 66% and cram everyone in what’s left over and now you are starting to get the picture. Throw in pressing problems such as significant overpopulation, environmental degradation, extensive poverty, and ethnic and religious strife and you begin to see the challenges faced by the people of India.

Now lets talk religion. The dominant religion of India is Hinduism and it accounts for 80.5% of the population. A distant second is Islam at 13.4%, and Christianity accounts for only 2.3%, or 24 million people. Around 70% of Christians in India are Roman Catholics.

In America there are big and small churches on almost every street corner and in every neighborhood, but in India, Hindu Temples dominate the landscape. Please keep me and the India Team in your prayers in the weeks and months ahead.
