Final Authority and Faith-filled Atheists

Today an atheist called me an idiot for using the Bible as my source of authority. That's circular reasoning he shouted! I believe the Bible because the Bible says so. And he is right, about the circular reasoning! But then I asked him where does his authority come from and he replied science. And why do you put your confidence in science, I asked? He replied, because of the scientific method of acquiring knowledge. The SCIENTIFIC method, I replied? So science is true because science says it is true? Then he said, well really logic and reasoning. Ok, I'll give you that (the foundations of science are logic). But how do you know your logic and reasoning skills are true? I had to answer this for him....because it makes LOGICAL sense? BOTTOM LINE, every final authority has to be an authority unto itself, or there would be another authority, and another. Even atheists have to use circular reasoning and many haven't even thought it through.

Too often atheists want to redefine what faith is.  They turn it into a wishful, not likely going to happen but hope so kind of exercise.  That's not what faith is.  Biblical faith is evidence-based.  Even atheists live by acts of faith every day. For example, a good friend of yours recommends a new restaurant. You like their taste in food so you put faith in their suggestion and go try it. You're at the restaurant now and you order food. You're now trusting, or believing, or putting your faith in the cook who you've never seen and don't know to prepare the meal you've ordered. That final act of faith wasn't blind faith but based upon the faith you have in your friend and having arrived at the restaurant, liking what you see, perhaps watching others enjoying their meals you decide to act by faith and order a meal too. My faith in God is that kind of faith. Based on knowledge, evidence, reason and logic.
