Does news feed you or do you feed on the news?

Don't just consume whatever your social media algorithms want you to watch and read. In today's world, it's a GUARANTEE you are MISINFORMED if the only news you see and read comes to you rather than you going to it. It is especially true four months before a presidential election. It's no coincidence they are called news "FEEDS". They're shoving into your mind what they want you to feed on and we're "eating" just like toddlers. A sign of maturity is when you go get the food and feed yourself. How we consume information is no different. Ask yourself, Do you consume news like a baby or an adult? Does news feed you or do you feed on the news? We can't be lazy anymore.

There are 5 characteristics, or actions, that are required of a well-informed citizen:

EFFORT- Being well-informed requires work, time, and money.

INTENTIONALITY- Being well-informed requires knowing and going to vetted news sources, both for and opposed to your values and political preferences.

OPEN-MINDEDNESS- Being well-informed requires a willingness to suspend judgment until both sides of the issue have been explored.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS- Being well-informed requires asking tough questions on both sides of the issue.

CLARITY OF VALUES- Being well-informed requires a clear understanding of what is important to the individual and why it is important.

My goal is to unpack the five characteristics in another article.

For now, here's a place to start: Compare the two party platforms and read for yourself from their own mouth what each candidate promises and feels are the main issues they will address. Don't just read your preferred candidate's site, c'mon, you already know it, go to the other side and really try to understand their perspective. To understand does not mean to agree, it means you're informed.
