Anchored to the Rock

I believe God is calling us to return to the central, core foundational truths of His Word. Many believers have drifted beyond the basics and now are chasing every wind of doctrine and have become easy prey for anti-christs, false prophets, who preach a counterfeit gospel that is pleasing to the ears and flesh but only paves a broad road that leads to destruction.  The Apostle Paul prophesied this would happen in in his letter to Timothy "in later times some will fall from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons" (1 Tim 4:1)   As Americans, we must not forget we live in a post-Christian, secular culture whose religion is humanism, man is god, and everything revolves around the “almighty” dollar. If you are not actively resisting this anti-God culture you have become one of them, a person who “holds to a form of religion but denies the power.” (2 Tim 3:5)

This is a time to re-prioritize and put first things first. It is a season to truly reflect on the essentials of life, from a God point-of-view, and make changes accordingly. I believe God is calling us to the basics for more than “it’s the right thing to do” reason. As I have been seeking, praying and asking God for revelation and insight for my own life and the life of the church. He has been soberly telling me there is a storm brewing in the heavenlies and when the winds of adversity, persecution and suffering touch earth the saints of God better be anchored to the Rock or they will be at the mercy of the overwhelming and relentless pounding waves.

A hundred years ago in 1910 America was a rising world power. The average salary was $750/yr and the national debt was a meager $1.15 billion. Milk could be purchased for .32 cents a gallon and the divorce rate was only 1 in a 1000. America was coming into her own but little did people know they were standing upon the threshold of WWI that would also pave the way to the Great Depression of the 1930’s. What threshold do our feet stand upon? Saints of God, we cannot assume and take for granted the peace and prosperity that God has graciously provided us even in the midst of minor recessions and global terrorism threats. This is only the beginning, labor pains, tremors before the Day of the Lord. We must discern the times and seek the Spirit of God as to what He is going to allow and release in the year and years to follow. Gabriel has his trumpet drawn and has raised the mouthpiece to his lips. His eyes are on the Creator of the Universe waiting, knowing, the command to blow and usher in the next chapter of mankind is soon at hand.

When a natural storm is on the horizon you know instantly and confidently what the basics are. You make sure the whole family is together and safe. When there is ample warning you stock your pantries with the basics: bread, water, milk and canned goods. You get candles and flashlights ready with extra matches and new batteries. In the moments before you are glued to the weather channel or local weather radio station and listening to moment by moment updates. Then when it hits you take the family to the safest place in your home, an interior bathroom or basement and wait it out.
When is the last time you stocked your spiritual pantries?

Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. John 6:35

(1) For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; (2) and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea; (3) and all ate the same spiritual food; (4) and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:1-4

The Word of God and Holy Spirit is our moment to moment weather and radio channel. How often do you tune in?

Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6

"When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me, John 15:26

"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. John 16:13

Where do you run and hide in the midst of the storm?

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. (2) I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!" Psalms 91:1-2

Do you even know how to get there?

When darkness surrounds you and you have lost your way what do you do?

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Psalms 119:105
For You light my lamp; The LORD my God illumines my darkness. Psalms 18:28

Build your life upon the Rock, Jesus Christ, and no matter what life may bring you will overcome and be victorious. Don’t let a day go by that you don’t run to the hiding place. For when the storm hits it’s too late to make plans.
