DAY FOUR-Chap 7 & 8 Engaging the Bible: 10 Days Through The Gospel of John.

 Chapter 7

Notice how tense the opposition is getting towards Jesus. He is being opposed by some of the crowds, the Pharisees, the chief priests, and even his own brothers don't believe and push him to prove himself in public (7:3-5).  

7:1...He was unwilling to walk in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill him.

7:5...not even his brothers were believing in him.

7:10...he (Jesus) went up to Jerusalem in secret

7:13...No one was speaking openly of him for fear of the Jews.

7:20...The crowd answered him, "You have a demon!"

7:25...So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, "Is this not the man whom they are seeking to kill?

7:30...So they were seeking to seize him...

7:32...the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to seize Him.

7:43...So a division occurred in the crowd because of him.

7:44...some of them wanted to seize him.

Chapter 8

I AM number 2 is found in this chapter.  

Jesus continues to teach and many come to believe in him (8:30).  Jesus confronts those wanting to kill him and calls them sons of the devil (8:44).  Jesus claims to have been alive before Abraham. The crowds pick up stones to kill him but Jesus escapes.  

As you read focus on two areas: the teachings of Jesus and the events surrounding him.  Both are important to know and follow as you continue to read.
