DAY TWO -Chap 3 & 4 Engaging the Bible: 10 Days Through The Gospel of John.
John 3
Many are familiar with the story in John 3 when the Pharisee, Nicodemus, comes at night to have a private meeting with Jesus. Pharisees were well-educated religious leaders who had much influence in teaching and interpreting the Law. The conversation he had with Jesus had a tremendous effect on him. We learn this in John 19:39-40 when he helped Joseph of Arimathea bury the body of Jesus. It is reasonable to assume Nicodemus heeded the words of Christ and was born-again.
John 4
Another familiar story is found in John 4 when Jesus leaves Jerusalem and travels north through Samaria and stops at a well to rest. At the well, he has a conversation with a Samaritan woman while his disciples have been sent into the nearby town to gather food supplies. Pause a moment. Imagine how John came to know about this exchange with the women if he wasn't there? Remember, he was with the disciples gathering food. The conversation details given give us an amazing glimpse into the conversations Jesus must have had with his disciples retelling them in great detail what they had missed.
Miracle 2 of 7 is next in chapter four. Here is a reminder of the questions to reflect when John records a miracle.
